Stage 2 started on at a fast pace and at 5kms riders with riders Ed Clemens Spirit Tifosi and Dillion Corkery NRPT and had a 150m gap, KOM no.1 and the bee hive was won by Corkery from Clemens and the peloton were chasing and had a high pace of over 60kms. There was fast racing into the next hotspot sprint at Pinewood Healthcare and it was Joe Harris of Maxxis 4 Racing Team who won this and the average speed to this was 49k. onto KOM no 2 @15.3kms and Adam Stenson of Team Bikeworks powered over this climb to take the points, following this climb a group 6 riders broke clear and battled a strong crosswind at 23kms.
The next pinchpoint on the race was a fast descent down colligan to Hotspot 2 won by Ronan Twomey of MSL Mercedes Cork, shortly after a large group of 16 riders formed containing the yellow Jersey of Busturd, these were Matteo Ciagala, Ronan McLaughlin, Kieran Crean, Conor Kissane, Paul Kennedy, Ed Clemens, James Davenport, Simon Ryan, Mark Dowling, Laurance Carpenter, Jake Kelly, Tim O’Regan, Ronan Tuomey, Jamie Blanchfield, and Leon Mazzone and these leaders were being powered by McLoughlin,Busturd and Clemens with constant reports from the commaissaire coming over the race radio.
At the Pyke KOM 2 it was Conor Kissane chasing and winning the KOM points however in the peloton 2 riders (Declan Maloney Ballina CC and Constantin Bartels Waterford Racing) fell due to a touch of wheels but were quickly up to finish the day so again chapeau guys for sticking with it.
Up the road was a different story the racing was hard and fast and the lead group of riders had now over 1 mins with 13 riders coming across being driven by Sean Lacey pink Jersey,Tom Mazzone Green Jersey and Adam Stenson the KOM leader with his Bike works teammated who had all missed the move of the day and were losing points to the days break and it was Simon Ryan who took the last points at Carrick on suir for the hot spot sprints and ended up with the pink Jersey for his efforts.
The Break were worining well together but most of the reported pulling were from the Spirit Tifosi and Aqua blue Teams on the front and the situation did not change as the final 20kms rolled past but Spitit Tifosi kept the past fast to keep the group together.
On the final corner it was the Aqua Blue Cigala and O’Loughlin who were first around the last corner but disaster struck as they fell and it was Ed Clemens Spirit Tifosi who took the stage a second on the race for the Spirit Tifosi Team.
